Your plumber at Smith Mountain Lake
Smith Mountain Lake is not one town. It is Moneta, Westlake, Hales Ford, Union Hall and Penhook strung around roughly 500 miles of shoreline, and plenty of the plumbers a lake search turns up dispatch from Roanoke or Lynchburg. We work the Franklin County side of the lake, a licensed plumber answers day or night, and you approve the price before any work starts.

Day or night
Emergency plumber on the lake
Lake emergencies have a habit of picking their moment: the water heater quits the morning the family arrives, or a supply line lets go on a Friday night with the dock full. We take the call whenever it comes, and we tell you what we found before work starts. If the house is yours but you are hours away, call anyway; we can meet a neighbor or a key holder.
Standing in water right now? Call us, whatever the hour.
The bridge area
Westlake, Hales Ford and the bridge area
Westlake is the busiest corner of the lake: the run of shops, restaurants and subdivisions along Rt 122 near the Hales Ford bridge. It shows on no map as its own town, which is why so few plumbing companies name it. We do, because it is the middle of our patch. If your address says Westlake, Hales Ford, or anywhere near the bridge, our Moneta and Westlake page covers your corridor street by street. Public water runs along the strip; a short drive off it, the houses are on wells and septic, and we work both sides of that line.
Seasonal homes
Lake houses, docks and the empty months
A large share of the homes around the lake stand empty part of the year: 39.5 percent in Union Hall, 28.8 percent along Gills Creek, 18.1 percent in Westlake Corner (ACS 2024). An empty house turns a small leak into a ruined winter, because nobody hears it happen. We close lake houses down in fall and open them in spring as a named service: lake house winterization and spring start-up. The water lines that run out to docks and boathouses are part of that same work, and our lake home plumbing page covers what owning on the water does to a plumbing system.
Off the corridor
Wells, septic country and the shoreline rule
Past the Westlake strip, most lake homes run on a private well and a septic system. Well pumps, pressure switches and tanks are daily work for us; the full rundown is on our well pump and pressure tank page. On the septic side, Franklin County requires systems within 500 feet of the shoreline to be pumped out or inspected every five years. When that check finds a failed sewer line, the repair is plumbing work and we handle it; the pumping itself belongs to a septic hauler, and we say so up front.
Full trade
The rest of the work
Water heaters, tank and tankless. Drain cleaning, repiping, remodels, new-construction rough-in, gas piping, all under the same Class A license. The full list is on our services page. For the towns around the lake, see Moneta and Westlake, Union Hall, and all of Franklin County.
Straight answers
Smith Mountain Lake questions
- Who do I call for a burst pipe at Smith Mountain Lake in the middle of the night?
- Call (540) 705-6098. A licensed plumber answers day or night, weekends and holidays included, and you approve the price before any work starts.
- Do you cover the whole of Smith Mountain Lake?
- We work the lake from the Franklin County side: Moneta, Westlake, Hales Ford, Union Hall, Penhook and the coves between, plus Huddleston across the water. If you are not sure your cove counts, call and ask.
- Can you winterize my Smith Mountain Lake house before I leave for the season?
- Yes. We close lake houses down in the fall and start them back up in the spring as a named service. Book the visit for the week you close the house, not after the first freeze.
- My Smith Mountain Lake home is on a well. Do you work on well pumps?
- Yes. No water, low pressure, or a pump that cycles all day usually comes down to the pump, the pressure switch, or the tank. We diagnose which one it is before we replace anything.
- Do you repair sewer lines near the Smith Mountain Lake shoreline?
- Yes. Franklin County requires septic systems within 500 feet of the shoreline to be pumped out or inspected every five years, and when that check turns up a failed or root-cut sewer line, we repair or replace it. Tank pumping itself is a job for a septic hauler, not us.
- How fast can you get to a house at Smith Mountain Lake?
- Most calls around the lake are handled same-day. We are based in Franklin County, so you are not waiting on a truck dispatched from Roanoke or Lynchburg.
